Definition of Open Studio:
This offers you flexibility. You may start the class of your choice on any Open Studio date. You need to reserve the date via email or phone. Accepting 4 students per date. Open Studio is in Manor House of Checkmate Farm. Second floor living room.
Want to learn how to punch? I have 3 half day projects for you to select from. The class fee is $75 for 3 hours. Class starts at 9:00 am to Noon or 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Classes include materials, loan of frame and punch needle. Great way to try punching to see if you enjoy it!
Need support on your current project? Color selection? Special punching techniques? More practice? Bring your project and frame and I am available to help you. Access to the store to select new colors, patterns and frames. An opportunity to try another frame. Social time with other punches is fun, builds confidence and provides dedicated time to work on your project. Half day fee is $15.00. Full day is $30.00 (includes lunch). You are welcome to come anytime during the 9 to 4 pm Open Studio time.

I Have My Original Design - Now What? You will be introduced to the various ways to place your design on the foundation cloth. I will demonstrate the options and help you put your design on monk cloth. This is a half day class ($75.00).
Wool on Wool Class: Learn to punch with #14 Mini using thin yarn. The pattern is on wool fabric. You punch the pattern only NOT the background. Bring your frame, #14 Oxford punch needle and yarn stash. Or I will loan you a frame and punch needle. I have a variety of thin yarns for you to select from. I will offer this class at your choice of Open Studio dates.
ON THE FARM - Introduction to Oxford Punch Needle
This three hour class will introduce you to how to make a 6 X 6 punch needle rug. You will learn the skills to punch, poke and hem your lame rug. Great for children age 8 and up, anyone with no prior hooking experience. This class can be scheduled weekdays or weekends on the farm or at your requested location. Contact me with two dates that work for your group, guild or association.
Homeschooling? This is a great class for you. Email if you are interested in this class. I will arrange a date to accommodate both our schedules week day or week end.
RH01 Punch Needle Rug Hooking for Beginners with Kathy Donovan
Friday, May 4, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Room 5 at Turf Valley Resort
What says spring more than baby chicks hatching and tulips in bloom? Have you wanted to try punch needle rug hooking using wool strips? This “make it and take it” workshop will focus on the basics of punch needle rug hooking using wool rug yarn and wool strips. Completed egg is approx. 4” x 6”. Several Tulip colors will be available. Proficiency Level: Beginners. Bring to Class: Small scissors such as embroidery scissors, which should have a narrow point (not rounded at the end).
Class Fee: $50. Materials Fee: None.
Dyeing Rug Yarn
You may have a project in mind and want to dye yarns for your project. This can be done individually or as a small group. Instruction on dyeing solid color and spot dyeing yarns will truly make your project unique! All instruction is on Checkmate Farm. One day class. Two students only.
Introduction to Rug Braiding
One day class will teach you design, color selection, braiding and sewing your rug. Karakul roving makes beautiful strong rugs. I can work with you anytime on the farm.
NEW! I can introduce you to braiding with wool fabric. A chair pad will give you all the skills needed to make any size wool braided rug. Email me if you are interested so we can arrange a class time for you.
